Submissions are hereby invited for | The Digest of South African Architecture : 2009
The Digest of S A Architecture is an annual publication whose mandate from SAIA is to catalogue and publish a
record of work produced by the profession. Intended to reflect upon recent design and production that exposes the
evolving situation in South Africa, its aim is to include as many submissions as possible. In addition, a number of
invited articles, from selected contributors, compliment the variety of building types that represent members’ best
work. Any excellent project completed between July 2008 and 2009, regardless of theme or category, will be
considered for inclusion, provided the client approves. With the introduction of the ‘community’ category in the
previous edition, we particularly encourage submission of projects that demonstrate developmental approaches to
the architectural project.

"my journey in architecture"
Gardiol Bergenthuin
Tuesday 21 July 2009 at 19:00

The University of Johannesburg Arts Academy in conjunction with the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture is proud to present Gardiol Bergenthuin in the tenth lecture on architecture and its related fields in South Africa. The lecture, entitled "my journey in architecture" will take place on Tuesday 21 July 2009 at 19:00 at the UJ Arts Centre, C/o University Road and Kingsway, Auckland Park.
Gardiol Bergenthuin's small architectural practice specializes in residential design, offering an analytical and creative journey-
the houses are to be seen all over South Africa.
The Starting Point of this journey is the Client, the Site, the Context and the Controls. Then follows an intensive Analysis and a Concept, which is formalized throughDocumentation and Construction, up to the end destination, the completed Building!
The final, ultimate satisfaction is a building which works well for it's inhabitants, both on a practical and aesthetic level, and leads to the final destination:
ARCHITECTURE!
