Heritage

The current portfolio member for Heritage is Katherine Fordyce-Sanders

PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY

I graduated from Wits in 2000 with a thesis focusing on sustainability. I have had a wide range of experience working on a different medium to large scale projects both here and in the UK. I spent 5 years in London working for a large commercial firm, followed by a smaller design practice (EPR Architects & Ian Ritchie Architects). Projects included amongst others, the conversion and refurbishment of historically listed buildings, a new civic development, a new train station at Shepherds Bush and commercial office developments. Since being back in SA, I have spent 2 years as project architect for the cultural project of Freedom Park outside Tshwane (Intermediate Phase) under GAPP Architects & Urban Designers, followed by 2 years working on the commercial developments of The Houghton and Melrose Arch as an Associate for Boogertman & Partners. I am now in the process of setting up my own practice. I’m passionate about creating architecture that’s meaningful, authentic, sensitive to context, and always seek the poetic within the mundane.

MY PORTFOLIO

I anticipate the primary focus of my portfolio to be increasing the public and the professions’ awareness and appreciation of worthy heritage and heritage buildings. I don’t have much experience working with heritage in this country, but am learning the ropes, and rely on those around me for guidance.

There is a short term goal to get the drawings catalogued and properly stored. And a longer term goal is to get these drawings digitized and accessible to the public. We are also investigating where relevant heritage drawings from the Johannesburg area can be properly archived in the long term.

This listing was started by my predecessor, and is now being taken forward in conjunction with  Henry Paine and Herbert Prins.
